My work - Photo Jasmine

As a photographer, Jasmine de Vries explores the edges of society. In her images she also makes use of the experiences she gained in her transition and moving in subcultures. She draws from this when she creates a concept for a new photo series. Due to social media and the spread of fake news, people tend to quickly have an opinion about other people's experiences and intimate events. They don't realize how confrontational this can be for the person affected. They often do not notice what their expressions are causing. The people involved often feel hurt by this. With her staged photographic images, she gives other women, whether in transition or not, the perspective to turn their experiences into opportunities and challenges. Jasmine de Vries started the series 'Rebel' n 'Saint' in 2016 and now comprises more than fifty photos. Her approach to converting what she has experienced into scenes is a very intensive process. This process of preparation, developing an idea , taking the photos and editing can sometimes take weeks to months.
